Symmetry and Cloches
Theme: To make a symmetrical mixed media sculpture using varying materials to express imagination and creativity
Skill: Artistic and Aesthetic Skills, Fine Motor Skills, Patience and Precision
What Did We Learn/Do:
We learned about symmetry in nature. Symmetry is a concept in mathematics, art, design, and science. It is often used to create aesthetically pleasing and balanced visual compositions, and it plays a significant role in understanding shapes and patterns in various fields. We talked about bilateral symmetry and students were invited to create insects imagined or real. They then assembled varying objects from nature (leaves, sticks, chestnuts etc) with their completed artwork, to place into cloches. Cloches are a bell-shaped glass or plastic cover used to protect and display small items. They are used to keep items safe from dust and damage while allowing them to be visible. We used a plastic bottle to create our cloche and placed our completed insect inside, surrounded by foliage from the forest.
