Unit: How We Organise Ourselves
Theme:
Visual Art: How to create an artwork using a mathematical pattern inspired by Maya Hayuk
Design: How to make a wall hanging by weaving inspired by Anni Albers
Skill : Be able to use a wide variety of materials, forms and techniques to express your emotions, observations and experiences
What Did We Learn:
Visual Art: We looked at the artwork of the contemporary American artist Maya Hayuk.
We talked about the meaning of repetition and pattern. We revisited our knowledge of colour theory and thought about how colour can trigger emotions.
Students got to work together to create their own design and we created a contrasting, colourful, patterned artwork using a mathematical pattern.
Design: We looked at the textile artist Anni Albers. We learned how to make a loom out of cardboard. We learned how to weave a pattern using wool. We learned how to make a pom pom and tassels and connect them all together to make a wall hanging.
Materials: Cardboard, wool, scissors, pencil, tape, sticks beads, paper, markers, coloured pencils, oil pastels, pencils
