Claude Monet’s Japanese Garden
Claude Monet was inspired by the natural world, and his Japanese Garden series reflects this connection.
Impressionism:
Monet was a leading figure in the Impressionist movement. Impressionism involves capturing the essence of a scene or subject rather than focusing on realistic details. This approach encourages artists to use loose brushstrokes and experiment with light and colour.
What did we learn:
Watercolour: We used the wet on wet technique for our water.
Oil Pastel: We used oil pastel for the lilies and bridge
Understanding Resist Effects: The resistance of oil pastels to water creates resist effects, where the watercolour doesn't adhere to the areas covered with oil pastel. This can be used to create interesting textures, patterns, and highlights in an artwork.
Texture: Students used salt to add texture and contrast to their finished inspired Monet creations.
Materials: oil pastel, watercolour, paint brush, salt
